What is aeration?
Aeration is the process of mechanically removing small plugs of thatch and soil from the lawn to improve soil structure and reduce compaction.

Benefits:
Compacted soil and heavy thatch are two of the biggest obstacles to a beautiful lawn. They tend to suffocate grass plants by preventing air, water and nutrients from reaching the root zone.  Aeration opens up the thatch and helps relieve compaction.

When Should You Aerate?
Annual aeration is beneficial for all lawns. Lawns growing on heavy clay or subsoil, and lawns exposed to intense use, benefit from two or more aerations each year. Spring and fall are ideal times to have your lawn aerated. Overseeding at the time of a fall Aeration is a great way to thicken up a thin lawn and introduce new and improved fescue cultivars.  Lawns with compacted soils should show an immediate improvement in how fast the soil absorbs the water after irrigation or rainfall. After aeration, your lawn should be able to go longer between watering and show enhanced heat and drought stress tolerance.
